This project is the ultimate review project for World History. Not only get your students to critically think about each topic and its relationship to other events in history and today, but will leave them talking about the tournament for years to come!
Students work individually or in groups to research the biggest topics and themes from World History. Their research will include the following: What caused the event, 3 Effects (reasons why this event is the most important event in world history), and 2 Refutations (reasons why this event is not the most important event in world history). Students will then choose a topic and "battle" (debate) other topics in head-to-head matchups trying to prove that their topic is the most important topic in world history. The project culminates with an essay in which each student may choose any topic (whether part of the project or not) and argue why it is the most important topic in World History.
The research portion of this project can be done with paper or on Google Sheets where it can be distributed via Google Classroom or Doctopus so the teacher can comment on student progress throughout the project.
