If you haven't had a "Battle of the Book type competition in your classroom or school, this is a great way to encourage reluctant readers and improve comprehension and retention. It is a pretty easy set-up...just choose the titles you want to use and then get the questions for those books.Once you have introduced the competition to students and parents and have enrollment cards for students committed to reading the books and the competition, you will need a way to make sure competing students read the books. I used SRC tests as an assessment of which students read which books. In addition to passing the SRC test, it is helpful to the contestants if they make notes about the book while they are reading it so that they will remember details of the book as they prepare for the competition. This form will help students to take notes on the books they are reading.
