Product Description
Battles of Gettysburg & Vicksburg - A Living History Role Play - is meant to make HISTORY COME ALIVE in today’s classroom with this very engaging activity for teachers to use with their students when they study the Civil War. This activity was created by two Civil War historians who willingly share their expertise and the actual role play that they present at their scheduled professional engagements. This is a “Living History Role Play” activity that teachers can easily use with their students. This short activity brings the indelible experiences of Civil War soldiers during 1861-1865. The role play portrays two soldiers (Union and Confederate) discussing battles fought in 1863 -- the Battle of Gettysburg and the Battle of Vicksburg. Students assume the roles of these two soldiers in this role play, and speak the written dialogue as presented in this product. Teachers can make their own creative modifications to enhance this role play in their classrooms, if they desire to do so. These two historians have also included some suggestions (below) as well. Education Get Real is proud to have this product here in our store, and we thank these two professionals for sharing it with YOU!

When was the last time you bought something that brought you and your students this much fun? Have your students ever seen authentic Civil War memorabilia? How can you bring the Civil War era “to life” for your students?

This role play can be staged by using actual Civil War uniforms, flags, music, and other artifacts. It reinforces student learning in the classroom because it is realistic and will capture the attention of your students. The props help place the observer back 150 years in time . . .

Included in this activity packet are suggested items to enhance the study of this era:

• Civil War Stats & Facts

• Link to authentic clothing & artifacts

• Link to a PBS Civil War music lesson plan

• Authentic postal history letter (Pg. 1 of 7) and cover from a Union soldier to his friend expressing the difficult march to Gettysburg compared with his march from Culpeper to Centerville. He also mentions his presence at Bull Run

• . . . and more.

Who could ask for more? Get started TODAY! Your students will enjoy this creative, exciting, fun, meaningful, challenging, and relevant instructional tool. Incorporate these new thought-provoking instructional ideas and strategies in your teaching repertoire.
