This is our attempt at battling the mid-day pencil blues. We created coupons for our students to complete when they borrow a sharpened pencil from our stash. The coupons put the responsibility on the students to bring the pencil back at the end of the day.
The coupons are placed in our "sharp" pencil bucket. When a student needs a sharp pencil, they must place their dull pencil in the "dull" bucket, grab a coupon and sign it. At the end of the day, they turn in their borrowed pencil and the coupon goes in the recycling. It is a wonderful method of solving the pencil problem that plagues our classroom and helping our students to establish individual responsibility.
