This is a packet that is designed as an introduction to research with 1st grade students. Research papers with facts about 4 types of bats (vampire, fruit, bumblebee and spotted bats) are included as well as a brainstorming web, a rough draft writing paper, an instructional paper for introduction and closing sentences, and two options for final copy papers. **Just added!!- Simplified fact pages with photographs of bats has been added for your more typical first grade readers. Also added are opportunities to learn about adjectives as students describe a bat in a graphic organizer and a chance to work with a diagram of a bat as they label the parts of this mammal.** I have used this unit for many years and my first graders always love it in October! It's a great way to learn about a "spooky" animal, incorporate some non-fiction reading, as well as work on informational writing and the writing process.
