Product Description

Teaching your kids that call numbers are the key to the layout and organization of the library is important! In this engaging unit, students become library detectives, practice their call number skills with "cases", take "checkpoint" tests, and ultimately earn a library license. If your library is automated, the library license can be barcoded and used to check out books. Fun for all!!

The library access skills covered are ...

* Books are divided into nonfiction, easy fiction, and chapter books.

* The "upstairs" of a call number lets us know where that book is found.

* The "downstairs" of a call number depicts the author.

* The nonfiction side of the library is organized by the Dewey Decimal System.

The product includes ...

* A Powerpoint Presentation to help you introduce the unit

* A file outlining the "how to" of the presentation and all of the lessons

* Three exploratory detective "cases"

* Four "checkpoints" assessing student understanding

* A printable "call number" sort activity

* Library licenses {Editable}

Not all libraries are created equal, so most of the printable files will come in both a secure PDF file and an editable Word file.

Feel free to download the Preview for a copy of the Unit Outline and Notes. This will explain the unit further and show you pictures of the assessments.
