This little poster will help young writers remember to be BRAVE when they are trying to spell tricky words. In my first grade classroom I play the chorus from the song BRAVE by Sara Bareilles (there is a part in the song referring to a weapon and a drug, I skip that part and just play the chorus). Then I model how to be brave when trying to spell difficult words. My kids absolutely love this lesson and I use the words from the chorus often when kids ask me, "How do you spell _____?"
Enjoy teaching your young writers to be BRAVE!
