Be My Valentine Buddy Unit Lesson Plan:
Included in this packet:
• Brainstorming Page
• Pages with line options
This is a great addition to any persuasive writing unit.
Start by reading a valentine book.
Discuss why we celebrate Valentine’s day and review persuasive writing. What does it mean to love someone? What does it mean to be a good friend? What does it mean to persuade someone? What does the word opinion mean? How can we convince someone to be our valentine buddy?
Using a smart board or dry erase board – model coming up with four reasons why someone should be your valentine buddy. Hide the smart board screen (No Show button) or erase the dry erase board so that students cannot copy.
Students can then return to their seats to fill in their own brainstorming page found of page 2 of this packet.
The following day, model how to turn your brainstorming into an actual piece of writing.
Using handwriting paper, students can create a rough draft using their brainstorming page.
Once students have met with you to edit their writings they can complete a final draft using the page option you choose.
I hope you enjoy this fun activity!
