This document is meant to be printed out and cut up as playing cards. There are 4 copies of 12 different cards. A whole deck will have 48 cards. The activity was designed with Japanese 1st Grade Jr. High School students (ichinense) in mind.
Divide students into groups of 3 or 4, and give them each a deck of cards. Have them shuffle out the cards. Each student should get 3. Students play rock, paper, scissors to decide who goes first. After that, play will continue to the left.
Students play GoFish with these cards. As an example: The first player will look at his cards, and ask the student to his left, "Are you Bob?" If the second student has a card labeled "Bob" they will reply, "Yes I am," and give the card to the first student. If the student doesn't have a card labeled "Bob" they will respond "go fish." The first player takes a card from the deck, and then play moves to the person on his left. Students need 2 cards to make a match.
