“Be A Sight Word Superhero”
Please see preview for a good look!
The words used in this program are high frequency words taken out of the Fountas and Pinnell assessment system. I have used this word list for years as I have seen great results by my students in recognizing high frequency words.
Working with beginner readers we instruct sight words and high frequency words in a similar fashion. Several words can be found on both sight word lists and high frequency word lists.
High frequency words are defined by usage in texts. High frequency words are the words that appear the most often in written text in the English Language. We want students to memorize these words, as they are encountered over and over and over while reading. While many of these words do not fit our standard phonetic patterns, some do.
Constant exposure to these high frequency words will make it easier for children to read once they are used to recognizing them.
This pack includes 375 high frequency words, the word cards get more difficult as they move through the cards.
How do I use these cards?
I have my students work with another student, helper or myself and they practice reading through these cards quickly and accurately as I am looking to get students to memorize these words. They also can take them home and they move on to the next set when most or all the words are memorized. A check off graph is included, along with word cards and lists that can be sent home to practice. Students can also earn a certificates or brag tags when the lists are memorized.
Your students will gain confidence and you will see a difference in their accuracy and word knowledge while reading.
Any questions please ask!
