PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This worksheet can be used along with the powerpoint lesson "Be a literary detective- read for theme using 12 clues." Students read the two page prologue to Esmeralda Santiago's memoir When I Was Puerto Rican, and the worksheet guides them through a series of questions using theme clues. The prologue ("How to Eat a Guava") is the perfect story for this activity because it is very short but packed with "clues" and ripe for interpretation (pun intended). By the end, they make conclusions about the story's theme(s) by adding up all the clues. Includes a sample answer page.
