Here's to hoping that your students don't get Bean Boozled in ELA. During this activity, students will practice three different writing strategies to spice up their vocabulary, sentence structure, and use of imagery in descriptive writing. This unit puts the popular Bean Boozled game to use where the students will be drawing cards (and praying for a card without a star) to select jelly beans. If they get a Bean Boozled card, the students must spin for their jelly bean. In this game it could be one of two VERY different flavors. One is usually quite delicious while the other will leave them...well...quite disgusted. It pulls out some dramatic emotions which turns into amazing writing. Plus the kids absolutely love it! At the end, the students use their sentences and phrases created during the game to write a descriptive poem and a descriptive paragraph. Here is a look at what is included:
- Game instructions
- Game pieces
- PowerPoint including vocabulary and instructional materials for figurative language, sentence structures, and the seven types of imagery,
- Writing resources
- Writing paper
This will definitely be a writing memory that you students will always remember.
