This product was intended to provide teachers and students with an easy to follow format for covering all CCSS ELA in Literature & Informational Text in grades K-5.
With the adoption of Common Core, many teachers are finding a need to redo their approach to teaching comprehension strategies. I have worked to provide a systematic easy to follow and easy to understand comprehension program that works for my struggling readers.
Many students find it hard to transfer comprehension lessons to their independent reading. Isn't that the whole reason for teaching these strategies? The whole idea is help our young readers become successful at comprehending what they read.
Using the Beanie Baby Decoding Strategies to teach decoding made the process easy to do and remember since the animals were linked to a strategy. I have taken this approach and redone the traditional Beanie Baby Comprehension Strategies into a Common Core focused system.
There are 7 strategies in all. Each is taught through use of a beautifully written picture book. Each strategy uses this literature-based approach to introduce and reinforce the strategy. Each strategy has a story that showcases the strategy's Beanie Baby. The story provides an introduction to the skill that can be recalled easily due to the story's main character being the strategy's Beanie Baby.
