I have taught French for years and have found that that most effective way to teach young children French is through stories. I design a year of curriculum around stories that are familiar to students, translated into simple French. The story is repeated each week for six weeks so that students become very familiar with it, and the story is accompanied by motions to get the students actively involved.
This packet includes lesson plans for six lessons (one per week), as well as accompanying worksheets and a “homework” assignment for each week, something students can practice at home with their parents.
The lesson plans lend themselves to teaching either in an immersion setting (conducting the class 100% in French) or in a class where both French and English are used.
You may also wish to purchase the student book that accompanies this unit. It is available in my TPT store. You can read it in class as part of each lesson. You can also print it out for your students and have them take them home to practice weekly. The more they hear the story, the more familiar with it they become!
