This activity focuses on six different vocabulary words used in Bearstone by Will Hobbs. The students use the six words in two different ways. In Part One, the students read a passage from the novel where the vocab word is used. Based on context clues, the students need to come up with a synonym for the highlighted vocabulary word. They also need to highlight or underline the context clues that helped them determine the synonym. In Part Two, the students do a fill-in-the-blank activity with the same six words. This helps verify their understanding of each word. An answer key is included as a separate file.
The documents within the zip file are all in pdf format.
All of the items I share on TPT are ones I actually use in my middle school classroom. Most have been revised multiple times based on "test runs" with my students. I work hard to make information accessible to students in a fun and simple way while still challenging students to meet and exceed their abilities. Most of my assignments can be used with all ability levels; differentiation comes in my expectations of what individual students or groups can achieve. Many of my activities can be used with individual students or cooperative groups.
