After my students have finished reading Bearstone by Will Hobbs, we watch the movie Spirit Rider. Both have somewhat similar protagonists, plots, and themes, so they are great for comparison and contrast. In this activity, students create a chart showing the similarities and differences between the book and the movie. They then answer questions about the protagonist and common themes between the novel and movie. My students LOVE the movie, and it is a great way to wrap up our novel unit.

All of the items I share on TPT are ones I actually use in my middle school classroom. Most have been revised multiple times based on "test runs" with my students. I work hard to make information accessible to students in a fun and simple way while still challenging students to meet and exceed their abilities. Most of my assignments can be used with all ability levels; differentiation comes in my expectations of what individual students or groups can achieve. Many of my activities can be used with individual students or cooperative groups.
