This is a flipchart that helps students apply and explain the different addition strategies that they have learned. It is a file for promethean boards and will only work if you have the active inspire software required!
This is a flipchart that I use to review different addition strategies. It includes one page to review each of these strategies: counting on, turn-around facts, making a ten, doubles, doubles +1 and doubles +2. After reviewing each strategy, the flipchart asks how to choose which strategy to use. This opens up a discussion of how multiple strategies will work, but sometimes one is the most efficient. The flipchart ends with several pages with one addition fact per page and the directions "show your card." The cards are available in my Teachers Pay Teachers store as a free download. Each card has one of the strategies above listed on it. Student cut them apart and bring them to the class meeting place so they can show the strategy used for each of the last pages in the flipchart.
Showing the strategy used helps the teacher identify who is using what strategies, but also allows the teacher to call on multiple students to explain their thinking for any given problem, showing students how multiple approaches can be successful.
I really enjoy using this flipchart to help my students practice choosing appropriate addition strategies. Have fun adding! ~ Sara
