This is a great instructional manipulative that your students can use for notation and dictation. Using a beat strip in either 4/4 or 3/4 meter, students can compose rhythmic patterns or take dictation from the teacher. The patterns for 4/4 meter can be 4 or 8 beats in length and the patterns in 3.4 meter can be 3 or 6 beats in length.
The rhythms are written in both stick notation and rhythmic notation with note heads. Rhythms included are:
* Quarter note
* Quarter rest
* Eighth note
* Sixteenth notes and combinations with eighth notes (including dotted eighths)
* Half note
* Half rest
* Dotted half note
* Whole note
* Whole rest
* Single eighth/quarter combinations (eighth-quarter-eighth; dotted quarter-eighth; eighth-dotted quarter)
This is a great assessment tool for all grade levels!!
Pictures and instructions on how to use this are included and can be found on my blog post:
