In this activity, students use latitude and longitude coordinates to locate beautiful features/places in the United States. Students choose a coordinate card, locate that feature/place on a map, and research/share its significance. This allows for great discussions and integrates very well with science - learning about natural landforms (mountains, plateaus,...), erosion and weathering (glaciers, caves, and water creating canyons,...), constructive and destructive geologic processes (faults - earthquakes, volcanoes,...), fossils and prehistoric life, and flora and fauna (migration routes, biomes,...). There are two coordinate worksheets to allow for differentiation. The worksheet that is more challenging lists 26 locations. An easier worksheet lists 15 locations. This is a wonderful way for students to learn of the beauty in the US. Answer keys are provided. I have additional latitude and longitude worksheets at my store - Terri's Teachables. Check them out!
