INTEGRATE STEM IN YOUR CLASSROOM THIS VALENTINE'S DAY!
Students will love completing this Valentine's Day STEM activity! For this STEM challenge, students are challenged to help Beautiful Blossom's Floral Service deliver flowers by building a delivery truck using a water bottle and balloons. This lesson can be used to reinforce the principles of Newton's 1st and 2nd Laws of Motion.
Students will develop critical thinking and engineering skills as they work through the challenge. They will use the engineer design process the brainstorm, plan, create, test and improve! Opportunities for reflection are incorporated into the activity. Materials Needed:
Empty 20 oz. water bottles
Straws of various sizes (Regular drinking straws, milkshake straws, coffee stirrers).
Dowel Rods/ Wooden skewers
Round Objects (Lego wheels, K’nex wheels, buttons, bottle caps, Tinkertoy's, CD’s, round cardboard pieces- offer variety of available so students can choose their designated wheel type).
Optional Track (ramp/ slope made out of cardboard or foam board OR designed lanes on flat tiled surface marked with tape in 4 foot section).
Stickers, foam hearts, construction paper, etc for decorations
