I used these materials with my 4th grade students. I was amazed at their depth of knowledge after reading the book and completing the activity sheets. I taught my 4th graders how to write a summary for each chapter of the book. They created their own folder by coloring the cover. This folder contained the character book, chapter summary book, vocabulary book, and timeline. They used their dictionary skills when looking up key vocabulary words from the book. They added new information to these booklets as they read. All of the activities have ample room for writing and picture drawing, which makes it extra fun for the students.
Use this packet as a companion to Lucy Calkin's reading workshop or 3rd grade MASIA Reading workshop unit on characters.
