This resource contains two sample activities from my literature study resource: Because of Winn-Dixie
Use these cards with students to get them thinking and talking about themes and situations that will come up in the novel. Students can complete these in pairs or small groups. If working in small groups, I recommend students use a tangible means to keep track of who has shared and how many times. Ex: Talking Chips or “Talking Trays” (see teacher sample page).
A chapter summary response sheet is included. It asks students to fill in the chapter they are responding to, write down what happened, share what their thoughts are, and to predict what might happen next. I do not use them for every chapter. I use them occasionally when I am not having the students respond in a different manner.
Thank you for visiting!
