Product Description
Becoming Ben Franklin by Russell Freedman: A Nonfiction Book Study will help you guide your students through the book Becoming Ben Franklin (Holiday House, 2013). Freedman's nonfiction book about the life of Benjamin Franklin emphasizes his accomplishments as a writer, a scientist, and a diplomat.

Designed for students in grades 5-8, this book study was created as a whole class activity but could be easily adapted for small reading groups, a read-aloud by the teacher, or an independent study.

Features of this book study:

*The seven-page Oral Reading and Discussion Guide includes a brief summary and comprehension questions for each chapter as well as the definitions for vocabulary words from the glossary that are introduced in the chapter.

*The sixty-word Glossary lists definitions for the vocabulary words as they are used in the book.

*Nine two-page review worksheets address vocabulary and comprehension for each chapter of Becoming Ben Franklin. These include a variety of activities including vocabulary study, sequence of events, identifying characters, cause and effect, crossword puzzles, acrostics, and locating details in the text.

*Three vocabulary crossword puzzles use vocabulary words from the glossary for Chapters One through Three, Chapters Four and Five, and Chapters Six through Eight.

*The vocabulary test has twenty-five questions matching words with definitions and twenty-five questions using the words in sentence context.

*Comprehension Questions for Independent Readers lists all of the comprehension questions that appear in the teacher's Oral Reading and Discussion Guide but formatted for students' use. This can be used as an independent reading activity, a review for the test, or to catch up students who were absent during the oral reading.

*The comprehension test consists of eight questions matching people from history with descriptions, ten multiple-choice questions, four short answer questions, and three sequencing questions.

*An answer key is provided for all the components of this nonfiction book study.
