Are you about to read Beverly Cleary's classic, Beezus and Romona with your class? These comprehension and character trait bookmarks are perfect to help your kiddos build their comprehension skills as you progress through the book!
Included are 18 comprehension bookmarks. Each chapter was split into thirds to make the book more manageable. Each bookmark covers 1/3 of a chapter or 7-11 pages. Each bookmark asks 5-7 comprehension questions from the night's/day's reading. Copy the character trait bookmarks onto the back for a double sided bookmark. The character trait bookmarks asks for students to identify 2 adjectives to describe the characters of Beezus and Romona.
How it worked for my class: I was fortunate enough to have a class set of Beezus and Ramona books purchased for us to keep. I assigned the bookmarks and matching pages for homework each night. The next day, students were to have their bookmark completed for a homework grade. We would read through the assigned pages together while answering the questions and identifying the traits of each character. My kids loved feeling like they were "ahead" of me while they stayed a day ahead of the class. This helped with their fluency and comprehension while keeping them accountable to read at home every evening! A parent's signature line was also included in hopes of having parents read with their child.
We finished this unit by watching the movie. The kids loved this book and relating to either Beezus or Ramona!
There is also a calendar included to keep everyone up to date on the assigned readings. I sent this home so parents knew what pages to expect. This also helped if a student was absent so they wouldn't be too hard behind.
