This is a 33-page, ready-to-use packet for guiding students who are reading Beverly Cleary's book, Beezus and Ramona. Included is a 22-page student booklet, an answer key, a biography of the author, and vocabulary bookmark. The student booklet is designed to reinforce essential reading and writing skills for students in grades 3-5. Skills addressed include cause-and-effect, connecting to the text, vocabulary, general comprehension, visualizing, sequence-of-events, descriptive writing, and summarizing.
The student booklet divides the text into six reading assignments (one assignment for each chapter) with questions and tasks to go with each one. Two culminating activities are also included at the end which can be optional or assigned. The first culminating activity is a crossword puzzle; the second is a compare and contrast activity designed for students who have seen the 2010 movie, Ramona and Beezus. The booklet is designed for independent work so that students may be working on this in class while the teacher is meeting with other students. Created by Jean Martin.
Beezus and Ramona in a nutshell:
Loved by children for generations, this is an entertaining story about 9 year old Beezus and her challenging younger sister, Ramona. Ramona can be endearing but mostly it seems she can be a headache and every chapter presents a new problem which students with younger siblings will especially enjoy.
The recent 2010 Twentieth Century Fox movie, Ramona and Beezus, might be familiar to your students and can be used as a great compare and contrast activity.
Appropriate for students in grades 2-5. Reading level is 3rd-4th grade.
