Whole Group:
-After students have read enough of Before We Were Free and are familiar with the character El Jefe, students will watch the trailer for In The Time of the Butterflies.
-Fill out the Venn Diagram comparing
-In a paragraph explain How is El Jefe different in key scenes? Support your answer with textual evidence.
-As a class discuss why students felt El Jefe may have been the same or different across two different artistic mediums. What was emphasized and what was left out?

Small Groups (Differentiated Instruction): (Working toward end product)

Students will separate into small groups and everyone will pick an individual film crew role and take on that responsibility.
Each Film Crew is to pick 3 scenes from Before We Were Free. Read Each Scene from the perspective of your film crew role.
Each Film Crew will now Create a movie trailer story board trailer depicting 3 scenes from Before We Were Free. Determine which details are emphasized in each account and explain why.

Culminating End Product- write an essay comparing and contrasting the differences between their trailer and the novel and film.
