Temporal Concepts – Before and After - 'Do this, Do that!' board game.
of the ‘Do this, Do that!’ game is to be the first to the FINISH circle.... and to practice following two-part temporal instructions involving ‘before’ or ‘after’ along the way!
In this game, players take turns to spin the spinner and flip over a ‘Do this...’ card and a ‘...Do that’ card. Together these elements create a two-part temporal instruction. Following the instructions they create, players move their counters along the path towards the FINISH circle.
The game offers a choice of spinner-boards. Depending on the spinner-board used, the temporal conjunction (‘before’ or ‘after’) can be positioned either at the beginning of the instruction or between the two clauses of the instruction. Select the spinner-board most suited to your students’ needs.
Students who have difficulty following instructions involving ‘before’ and ‘after’ are often noticed to experience difficulty with short-term auditory memory recall. The cards in this game provide visual reminders of the ‘actions’ required for each part of the instruction, helping to reduce the load on short-term auditory/working memory, so that the focus can be on developing students’ understanding of the temporal concepts of ‘before’ and ‘after’.
The game is best played with 2 to 4 players.
