This detailed lesson packet teaches kids how to hand sew. I've given this packet to my middle & high school students and they have been able to independently follow the packet to achieve great results!
- Students will learn:
- Making a starter knot
- Threading the needle
- How to baste stitch
- how to sew on a button (3 different kinds - 2-hole, 4-hole, shank)
- How to knot-off to finish
- they will make a button coin purse project using the info learned
It includes beginner friendly information, step-by-step real photos with directions in the captions.
I recommend printing this in color, for students to fully grasp the step-by-step photos.
To apply the hand-sewing/button lesson, this project bundle also includes Google slide instructions & PDF pattern print-out to sew a button coin purse. Slide instructions include tutorial to sew a machine buttonhole (specified to a Janome HD1000). Slide deck includes detailed written instructions accompanied by real photographs of the project being made.
This should take students 3-5 50 minute class days

When you send this to your printer, select 100% scale when the print option appears. Each student should cut it out use it for their fabric pieces to assemble the pencil pouch, as directed in the Google slide instructions.
