Best way to practice phonics? Applying those phonics skills while actually reading! I use poems during my shared reading time each week to target the spelling patterns, reading strategies, and comprehension skills we are currently working on. I copy a poem and phonics activity double sided, and have students keep all their poems in a binder. Then, their binder is kept in their book box! That way they can read the poems during independent or partner reading, and we can always go back to them when needed. Practice your reading fluency or highlight words that have their target spelling pattern. The possibilities are endless! Happy reading!!
