Hands on differenciated math centers that provide students with many opportunities to count real objects in a varity of ways. Children will develop counting skills, as well as a strong number sense.
The goals for students' learning found in these centers include:
Number recognition 0-20, recognizing numerals, counting objects with consistencyand accuracy, using numbers to answer the question "How many?", one-to-one correspondence, comparing numbers, comparing groups, ten-frames, dot cards, determining more or less, changing one number of objects in a group to another, and beginning measurement and data.
Children need to develop a strong number sense before they can move on to addition and subtraction or develop mental math strategies when problem solving.
