This emergent reader, by Martha Krein, uses simple text to teach young readers about fish. Young readers can read the story independently or with some guidance from an adult.
Students use several reading strategies such as sight words, picture and context clues, sounds, vowel pairs and cvc words to decode text. It’s a great way to practice these common core literacy objectives.
Sight words included are: all, have, and, are, not, they, do.
Most of my middle of the year kindergarten readers could read this after I had introduced facts about fish. The National Geographic Book, Fish is a great resource to introduce a fish unit to kindergartners.
This beginning reader is available to download in black in white.
