Beginning Reading Position Words Picture Match
This activity is a combination of Social Studies position words, reading comprehension, and beginning reading. It covers the words near, far, above, below, right, left, behind, and in front. There are two words and matching pictures for each position word. The words are simple and students who are beginning reading should be able to read these words. I used 3 letter CVC words and sight words except for the use of the word frog and the position words.
Use this activity in centers, as a class activity, as a position words assessment, as a cut and paste activity, or as an activity for students that finish their work early.
To use this as an activity in centers, as a class activity, or for students that finish their work early, print, cut, and laminate these cards. Have students match the sentences to the pictures. To use as an assessment for position words, read the sentences to the students and have them find the matching picture for each word. To use this as a cut and paste activity, give each student a copy of the pictures and sentences. Have them cut out the squares and glue them next to each other on a blank sheet of paper.
I made this activity for students to use in small groups or individually or to cut and paste. If you plan on using this activity in a large group for the whole class to see, you may want to enlarge the pictures and sentences.
