Cover Up! is a great literacy station activity to practice hearing the beginning sounds. There are 12 game sheets and answer keys for all games. Games sheets can be used as is with students sitting across from each other to play or they can be cut down the dotted line and students can be working on different sounds against each other, groups of 3 or individually. The 26 alphabet sounds have been broken into 4 groups (satpin, ckehrdm, goulfb, jzwvxyq), there are 3 game sheets per group. These letter grouping were decided as these are usually the order students learn their letter sounds in. To prepare print and laminate game sheets and answer keys. How to Play
Students roll the dice, match the dice to a sound. Find a picture that corresponds to the sound and cover it up. The first to cover up all pictures is the winner. Players take turns, if there is nothing left to cover for that roll it’s the next players turn.
