What educators are saying

We have been working all year on beginning sounds. These activities were great for students to do during their literacy rotations to reinforce the skills we are working on in whole group lessons.
This was perfect for introducing letters and letter sounds! So many different activities I have been able to do with this bundle!

Description

Helping kids learn the relationship between letter names and letter sounds helps prepare kids for learning to read and write. These beginning sounds and alphabet activities are a very useful addition to PreK and Kindergarten literacy centers.

Literacy skills covered:

  • Identify initial sounds (beginning sounds)
  • Identify the letters of the alphabet
  • Identify the primary sound of consonant letters
  • Identify the short vowel sounds

What I love about this resource?

  • It can be used all year round for small group instruction, intervention groups or literacy centers
  • You can differentiate learning easily by focusing on specific letter-sound correspondences (e.g. SATPIN)
  • Mix and match letter combinations, so you can choose the exact letters you want your students to focus on in each session
  • There's a choice of picture sorting mats for Preschool / PreK students or blank sorting mats for PreK / Kindergarten students

  • 26 x Sets of six pictures for each letter of the alphabet
  • Pictures focus on primary consonant sounds and short vowel sounds for a, e, i, o, u
  • For "x", there is X-ray as a beginning sound and five final sounds because there are not many appropriate words beginning with x
  • 26 x Square sorting labels, which can be used as sorting headings or be put inside a pocket cube dice
  • 4 x Editable organizing labels (So you can organize the pictures into teaching sets e.g. SATPIN)
