Product Description
This product has been designed for the students to complete on their own once they have had the lesson presented to them. This was designed for a Primary (ages 3-6) Montessori classroom but can be used in traditional Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms in centers, small groups, or even one-on-one stations.

You show your student to say the sound of the letter at the top of the page (i.e. /b/) and explain that they are listening to see which pictures needs to be "X" out. The picture that does not belong will then have a "X" marker placed on it. You may also use some counters or even clothespins.

For control of error, you may place a sticker on the back of the card that identifies the correct answer.

Beginning Sounds Common Core Standard:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.A
Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.

Purpose:
• Phonemic awareness
• Preparation for reading
• To hear beginning sounds
• To identify words that sound alike and sound different.

Notes: This lesson can be modified and have the pictures cut out. The students would then match 3 picture cards to the initial sound. You could use sandpaper letters, letter tiles, or single letter flash cards.
