Do you need a fun and engaging way for your students to practice trigraphs? This interactive PowerPoint slide show with sound effects might be just what you need. The blends included in this activity are scr, str and sqr.
Open the zipped file, the file named Directions has a printable recording sheet and answer key. The interactive game is the file named Beginning Trigraphs scr str squ.
Students will click on a random symbol on the home page and be taken to a subtraction problem. Students work the problem, record their answer, and check their work by clicking the picture next to their answer choice on the slide. If the student clicks on a correct answer, a slide with “Way to Go!” will pop up and the student will hear applause. If the student clicks on an incorrect answer a slide with “Oops Better Luck Next Time” will pop up and the student will hear a breaking glass sound effect.
Students can tally correct answers on the tally slide when that slide is projected on an interactive whiteboard, or you can copy the black and white points slide. The tally sheet is designed to be used with teams of four, or four teams when using the game with the whole class. Tallying points is optional of course.
A slide with “Game Over” separates the actual game from the recording sheet, answer key, suggested uses, getting started tips, and credits.
This activity can be used any time of year. It is Ready To Go anytime your students need practice on the skill.
