This unit was designed primarily for special education students who may not have the fine motor skills necessary to write, but can recognize or learn to recognize the difference between nouns, adjectives, ending punctuation, etc.
In this unit, students should be given a choice between different noun pictures, and adjectives (colors). There are four sets of nouns including shapes, animals, fruits, and common objects. Students are to glue the selected pictures into the boxes on one of the eight different sentence templates. This could also be used as a great interactive folder activity.
When working with this activity, I track if the student picked the correct color and noun to match the first picture, or if he/she needed assistance, and if the student is able to read the sentences independently, with assistance, or if they looked at the words or pictures.
In working with my students, this activity has been a great introduction to “writing” sentences.
