Beginning Writing: Draw and Write Sentences (An Artistic Approach)
I truly hope your students find this to be a fun way of learning to write sentences. Who doesn't love to color and draw?!
*For the beginning sentence writers, students first color in a picture and then complete the sentences using a word bank. The sentences relate to the picture they just colored.
*For the next level of writers, students are given a 3 step picture to hand draw. Once they've drawn their pictures, they build a sentence based on their picture. The sentence is guided with basic prompting questions (What is it? What does it looks like? What is it doing? Where is it?).
*There are a total of 20 pages: 10 of the first stage (color & sentence completions), and 10 of the second stage (hand draw a picture and write a guided sentence).
*The objects/animals to draw include: boat, bee, flower, car, owl, robot, rocket, butterfly, house, cupcake.
