Looking for a way to actively engage your students at the beginning of the school year? Want to gain insight into their understanding and learning styles quickly? This "carousel" activity will help you quickly get a gauge of your class, what they know, and what they want to know at the beginning of the school year.
Place each page in a distinct area of your classroom. Divide the students into five groups and give each group a marker color. Instruct them to answer the questions in the time allotted (about 30 seconds - 1 minute for 5th graders). Then, ring a bell (or get their attention in some other way!). They then freeze as you instruct them how to rotate. They then rotate to the next paper as a group and add their thoughts. After 5 rotations, you will have a quick glance into what the students remember from 4th grade and their preferred learning styles! Plus, they were up and out of their seat and getting some energy out! :)
*Note, if you want it adapted for your grade level, I can quickly update this and get it to you. Thanks! :)
