Have you ever noticed how kids love animals and love to hear stories about others making bad choices? It is human nature to want to know that others make mistakes too. These characters/puppets make a lot of mistakes in the classroom! They include Rudy Raccoon, Yelling Monkey, Bobby Bear, Blurt Out Beaver, Goof Off Gator, Pokey Porcupine, Pouty Possum, Whiney Hippo, Wheny Hippo, Tattle Tale Tiger, Greedy Gorilla, and Bossy Bunny. We cant forget about Cool Cheetah! He remembers to follow the rules and are the coolest ones in town! This set includes a picture and story that could be glued to the back of the picture to each rule breaker and rule follower. These discussion cards could be used in a classroom discussion or as a bulletin board set. The set also includes a puppet for each character that can be attached to a craft stick that could be used in an interactive role play of classroom rules. The kids would have a blast creating animal sounds as they hear about the new characters.
I have used these characters similar to these in a kindergarten classroom for 17 years to teach classroom rules all at the same time. Recently, I have used the characters in a second grade classroom and incorporated writing assignments and the reading skill of cause and effect with the characters. Second graders enjoy the stories just as much as the kindergarten kids. My students are always on the edge of their seats waiting to hear about the new rule breakers. We role play and discuss one new character per day. Finally, we all make a promise to try to be like the Cool Cheetah and be a part of The Cool Cheetah Club. This is a Fun Way to introduce classroom rules to your students.
