Product Description
These beginning of year math assessment task cards, answer sheets, and checklists pinpoint your students’ strengths and weaknesses with numbers in base ten. They’re an active, fun way to collect data at the beginning of the year.

The cards address fourth grade standards that ask students to write, compare, round, add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers. Each standard has been carefully deconstructed, which allows the teacher to pinpoint which subskills a student has/has not mastered.

Skills Addressed:
• writing multi-digit whole numbers using numbers (standard form)
• writing multi-digit whole numbers using words
• writing multi-digit whole numbers in expanded form
• comparing multi-digit whole numbers using <, >, and =
• rounding multi-digit whole numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand
• adding multi-digit whole numbers without regrouping
• adding multi-digit whole numbers with regrouping
• subtracting multi-digit whole numbers without regrouping
• subtracting multi-digit whole numbers with regrouping
• subtracting multi-digit whole numbers without regrouping
• subtracting multi-digit whole numbers across zeros
• multiplying a one-digit number by a one-digit number
• multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number
• multiplying a three-digit number by a one-digit number
• multiplying a four-digit number by a one-digit number
• multiplying two two-digit numbers
• dividing a one-digit number by a one-digit number
• dividing a two-digit number by a one-digit number without a remainder
• dividing a two-digit number by a one-digit number with a remainder
• dividing a three-digit number by a one-digit number with regrouping
• dividing a four-digit number by a one-digit number with regrouping

How It Works:
Copy five or six sets of the pages, cut, and use as task cards. Here are some ideas for managing this in your classroom:
• Stack cards with same numbers and place on table. Students come to table and take several cards to their desks at a time.
• Organize cards in a pocket chart. Students come to pocket chart and take several cards to their desks at a time.
• Give one set of cards to a table/group of students and have them share.
• If you’d rather not use them as task cards, simply copy pages for each child (with no cutting).
Standards checklists for individual students and class record-keeping are provided with each set.
To recognize student achievement and communicate with parents, award cards and a certificate can be found at the end of this file.

What’s Included:
• 20 Task Cards – Each task card addresses one specific standard.
• “I Can” Checklist - Each student can track his/her own progress.
• Teacher Checklist – The checklist lets you plan grouping or remediation. Keep it handy until all students have mastered every concept.
• Themed Award Cards – Acknowledge mastery with these cute award cards.
• Themed Checklist – Communicate with parents. At a glance, they’ll know which skills to practice at home.
