Skills Needed: 3rd and 4th grade math skills of decimals, fractions, polygons
I like for my students to begin working on something immediately when they enter my math class. At the beginning of the year, I use these Math Minutes which review 3rd and 4th grade skills. Afterwards, I move to beginning class with reviewing topics we have begun learning in 5th grade.
These are placed in the students' desks and they know to complete #1-10 when they first enter class. Since there are 20 problems on each of the 6 Math Minutes provided in this pack, that should cover about the first 12 days of math class. I give my students about 4-6 minutes when they first enter to complete the ten problems for that day. I chose "other" for the teaching duration because each teacher will use this resource differently. Some may want their students to do all 20 each day the first week of school to assess their previous math knowledge.
This helps me see if they remember their previous math topics. This could also be used as a center for reviewing math from third and fourth grade.
Parents, you could use this over the summer to see if your fifth grader knows their third and fourth grade topics.
