Start the year off right by getting to know your students and make a connection with them on a personal level on day 1. Let them know they aren’t just a “test score” or a “number.” Engage with them by learning about who they are, what interests them, and ensure your feeling has an infectious vibe of excitement and fun. If you can capture a true connection with your students, they will work hard for you and respect you throughout the school year.
This activity is a fun way to get to know your students and make every day a great one!
Have each class create a “Class Soundtrack.” Talk to them about the songs that make them feel excited, give them a sense of happiness, or put them in a great mood! Make sure they can vocalize exactly why this song inspires them in some way. As a class, identify 10-13 songs and put them together as a “soundtrack” to play each day as kids enter the room (or maybe it could be a special “Friday” event).
I use iTunes and create a Playlist for each class. Other music services are Sound Cloud, AmazonMusic, Pandora, I Heart Radio, Slacker, etc.
Help get to know your students and give them something special to show you know them and respect the things they enjoy. When you work to make class fun for them, they will work hard for you!
Good luck and have an awesome school year!
