Product Description
This autumn themed literacy product is brimming with fun activities
for your emergent and beginning literacy learners! I have included examples of the following skills your students will be practicing:
-3 pages of rhyming-cut out the leaves and glue them next to a leaf with a rhyming picture on the tree.
-1 page of phonemic awareness with short vowel sounds-3 squirrels have pictures with medial sounds of /ă/, /ŏ/, and/ ĭ/-students cut and glue pictures that "match the middle.”
-2 pages of word sort with short vowel/consonant “word chunks”- students fill wheelbarrows with consonants that form a word when added as an initial sound to the word parts, then write the words they formed on lines provided.
-Students practice following directions and reading sight vocabulary in context, then “fill the apple tree” with the correct number and color of apples.
-Students add initial and final consonants to a medial apple core to construct CVC words, then add a vowel to an apple core when given the initial and final consonant of CVC words.
-The final activity in this packet requires a more sophisticated use of reading strategies, so may need to be done as a supported, guided lesson depending on the skill level of your students. Combining phonemic awareness with phonics and sight word recognition, students read a short word, determine if the word has a short vowel sound or another kind of vowel, then sort the words into “short vowel’ and “not a short vowel” baskets.
I believe your students will have as much fun with all the leaves and apples as I had designing this product! Please take a look at the following examples. If these materials look like a good match for the instructional needs of your students, please take a peek at my store, which features lots of K-5th grade products in a variety of subject areas. Thank you!
