Product Description
My philosophy on teaching is that if kids can’t learn the way we teach, we must teach them the way they learn. (Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?)

At the start of the school year, students aren’t always ready for more in-depth responses to their independent reading. I’ve created this abridged Beginning of the Year version of my Fiction and NonFiction Text Elements Response Pages, which I use as an “exit ticket” after reading an independent text. It's a quick review of the text elements we’ve covered in our reading workshop and guided reading lessons, and keeps students accountable for their independent reading.

This ABRIDGED version includes space for students to identify Characters, Setting, and Problem and Solution for Fiction, and Main Idea, Supporting Facts and Text Response for NonFiction.

Each set of the FULL version covers a number of nonfiction and fiction text elements, such as
• Author’s Purpose
• Character Traits
• Point of View
• Problem and Solution
• Theme
• Plot
• Text Type
• Compare/Contrast to another text
• Author’s Purpose
• Nonfiction Text Features
• Main Idea
• Nonfiction Text Summary
• Text Type
• Nonfiction Text Response, and
• Compare/Contrast to another text

The full version response pages are differentiated to cover a wide range of text elements, and even include a two-sided version to accommodate for your students who need a bit more space when they write.

Both versions are free of busy distractions, like fancy clip art and hard-to-read fonts. Special needs students are not the only ones who benefit from a clutter-free paper!
