This Passport to Indiana is a fun way to encourage students to learn some basic facts about their state. There are some geography, history, and trivia questions to answer. Like a real passport, students' photos are placed inside the cover, and when the passport is completed and returned, I place an Indiana sticker on the front (the official stamp).
I've used this passport in a couple of ways. We have a "Step-Up" day at the end of the year when students meet their teacher for the next year. I've given out the passports for students to complete over the summer and return on the first day of school. They can also be given out in the first days of school. My students seem to retain the information they learned in this unique format. The document is set up to copy front to back, cut in half, and stapled to make little quarter sheet booklets. Two booklets use only two sheets of paper (always trying to conserve paper!) The passport can easily be changed for your specific state.
