These behaviour reinforcement cards are the best! EVERYONE NEEDS THESE! They are so good, because they help set a tone at the carpet meetings, reminding everyone of the expectations, and the carpet rules. You can use them as you like, but this is how I use them. I always start by showing the “give me five” card, and letting the students know that I am waiting until everyone is ready and they are giving me five. When I can see that everyone has almost settled in, I show the sitting nicely card and say “I am waiting for everyone to sit nicely, criss-cross apple sauce”. When everyone has succeeded, I go on to the next card. “I am waiting for everyone to show me that their listening ears are on. If your listening ears are on, your mouth is closed and you are quiet. And I am waiting for everyone to look this way. If you are looking at me, I know you are listening to my words. Finally, I show the “be kind to your friends card”, which is there to remind the students to be kind to their friends during the meeting time, by not talking to them, or touching them, as that would get everyone into trouble. This resource is perfect for Kindergarteners and up to grade3. Although I have used it my self up to grade five. They really work like magic. I seriously get anxious when I forget them at home!!! They help students get on task as they are not only reminded verbally, but visually as well!
