At the middle and high school level, I have never had success using level systems or reward-based systems to help manage the behaviors of students with social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities.
The system I have created focuses on teaching student how to take responsibility for their actions, making positive choices, and developing plans to avoid conflicts in the future.
This flow chart has helped me manage my students behaviors for over 7 years and it can be modified easily to fit your most challenging students. When executed properly it has helped my students decrease the number of behavioral incidents while increasing the amount of time spent in the classroom getting the instruction they need!.
This system incorporates Dr. Ross Greene's Collaborative Problem Solving approach to conflict resolution.
Behavior data should be tracked daily and discussed with students every 10 school days.
