Have a child in your class who has behavioral problems? Try this system to help them find success. This can also be used for parents with their children at home. Please note that this document can be edited to reflect suitable rewards, consequences, and goals.
-Spend a few minutes introducing the chart to the child. Review his or her goals, then review his or her rewards and consequences.
-Stick chart to child's desk, and the reward/consequence chart within view (ie: a nearby wall).
-Child starts off with all 10 stars on their chart each morning.
-Each time they misbehave, a star will be removed from their chart, and they will be reminded of their goal.
-They can always earn stars back for good behavior.
-At the end of the day, the number of stars on their chart = the number of points they have earned, and they will receive the reward or consequence that coincides with said number of points.
You can do this in a couple of different ways. 1) Apply velcro to the backs of the stars, and the green squares (this is where your student will earn their points). OR 2) Use poster putty on the backs of stars to make them easy to stick on and remove.
I highly recommend laminating before sticking on the velcro or putty, to make chart more durable.
