Shape behaviors you want to see in your students by rewarding them for making specific choices. This product includes 10 items that are often a favorite of students with autism: Smiley faces, Peacock feathers, Thumbs up, Trains, Dinosaurs, Penguins, Airplanes, Arctic animals, Colors, Numbers

Customize Expected Behaviors: Each page has three common behaviors expected at school that often trouble students with autism. Each page also has an identical version with blanks for you to fill in up to three behaviors your student is specifically working on. Students may be working on all three behaviors or may have one or more mastered. Try to affirm your students for their successes throughout the day. They will realize that you like them and you are for them.

Individual & Classroom Use: Use the visual reinforcers with only one student, or with all students in the classroom. I have taped a copy for each student on the wall and called students to the wall to color in a picture. The effect of seeing others be rewarded can sometimes motivate a student to earn a picture. It also serves as a model for students just learning about token economy systems. Usually some students will finish before others and get a reward, which motivates other students to complete their sheet.

Read through and explain the visual reinforcer with your students before they are expected to show the behavior. Remind your students of the opportunity to earn a picture to color with statements like, “As soon as you have ____, you will get to color in another picture.” “I like how [student’s name] is doing _______. He/She will get to color a picture.”

When my students have filled in the entire page, I give them a reward that is meaningful to the student: picking an item from the treasure box, getting computer time, playing with a favorite toy.

When you use this system regularly, students come to expect and look forward to this token economy system and knowing what behaviors are rewarded. Expected behaviors are improved and problem behaviors lessen or disappear.
